DJ Advice Based DJ Podcasts

The Passionate DJ Podcast

What’s it about?

This podcast is informative for DJs looking to get perspectives on DJing from other DJs experiences. It’s really cool to hear different points of views from varying DJs and artists at different stages of their musical DJing journeys.

If you’re at the beginning (as a hobby DJ) or at the peak of your DJing career you’ll more than likely glean benefit from listening to the mountain of podcast episodes that The Passionate DJ podcast has to offer.

Best episode

The below episode really resonated with me as I’ve found in my own personal journey with DJing and music production that it’s sometimes hard to define a music genre to your artist / DJ name. That’s something I struggled with in the past and was nice to see that ‘Mister Shifter’ was just doing his thing releasing what he wants, genre wise, under the same name.

Talkover Podcast

What’s it about?

A really hearty and to the point podcast for DJs to gain a solid understanding about key aspects of what it’s like to actually be a DJ.

Some examples of the episodes include interviews and experiences of established club and radio DJs, live streaming, being a club promoter and more.

Best episode

In this episode the boys (DJ Dubl and DJ Stylus) talk about anxiety and their personal experiences with it, especially within the realm of being a DJ. It’s something that resonated with me somewhat as I know friends and DJs that have had anxiety. I mean, even if you’re not a DJ that it’s easy to watch this episode and relate to it somewhat.

Either way it’s great to see such a topic being aired within an industry such as DJing which is potentially seen as a glamorous job role. After all, how could a DJ possibly get anxiety, it’s such a fun job right?

Off the Record Podcast

What’s it about?

The guys from Crossfader (Jamie, Lawrence, Danny & Holland) have created a great DJ podcast packed with plenty of topics to help you become a better DJ. Topics include how to get gigs, interviews with other pro DJs, equipment and manufacturers updates and more. Just a great podcast for DJs looking to genuinely upgrade your knowledge.

Best episode

The below episode is awesome, especially if you’re a DJ looking to progress and start getting gigs. It’s a very common topic of DJs looking to transition from the bedroom hobby to the club / bar leagues of DJing.

Be sure to check out the below episode to learn from the DJs experiences in how they eventually got gigs.

BONUS TIP: A quick start ‘how to’ guide on how to create your own DJ Based Podcast

If you’re a budding DJ looking to create content to share your DJ mixes, personality and share knowledge with the world, then get stuck in, don’t hestitate!

Step 1) What & Who.

Decide the WHAT your podcast or DJ mix show is going to be about and WHO are you going to be taregeting or resonating with. For example, House music lovers? Potential DJs that need real world DJing tips and advice? Do some research on this it will be worth it. Of course, you may already have a website or YouTube channel and may well be obvious to you WHO you’re targeting.

Step 2) Format.

What’s the format going to be? Audio or just Video? Will you publish on your website, Spotify, Mixcloud or YouTube or ALL platforms. Remember time is valuable, so which platform is best to reach your target audience?

Step 3) Plan.

Create a bunch of mix ideas or topics to cover, schedule in when you’re going to record and release each podcast. Will the podcast be monthly? If so, make sure you stick to a plan and implement your podcast regularly.

Step 4) Equipment & Recording Schedule.

Get hold of an smartphone or cheap microphone and start recording / filming your podcasts. If you’ve just got a DJ mix show, then much easier to implement. Simply record your DJ mix, and potentially add voice over snippets to introduce the podcast, feel free to get creative.

Step 5) Launch & Promote.

Consistency is key, make sure you launch your podcasts regularly on the same platform. Consider promoting your podcast via social media, your website email list, verbally telling your friends and making sure you get on the right or popular platforms that resonate well with your target audience.
